Blood oranges are a specialty orange with dark red to burgundy flesh. The peel/skin is usually tinged with red giving an indication of the color beneath. Most blood oranges are thinned skin, though slightly smaller than traditional oranges.

The common varieties include Moro, Tarroco, and Saguinelli. Tarroco tends to be less uniform in color than the other two and can, if unripe, look like a traditional orange. Saguinelli is smaller and more egg shaped than the other two.

Blood oranges can be stored and used in the same manner as traditional oranges.
