Cilantro is a leafy green herb used fresh or dried. Is has similar uses as parsley but a very different flavour and aroma. The seeds are also used as a spice (usually finely ground). History: Cilantro is also called corriander, but usually when referring to the seed or powder. There is some speculation that the Bible refers to cilantro or corriander as "Manna", the food the Isrealites survived on during their time in the desert. It is used liberally in Middle Eastern, Indian and Oriental cuisines. Spanish and Carribean dishes often contain it too. You can find it at mainstream grocery stores, food coops and at most East or West Indian and Chinese grocery shops. |
